REVIEWED: Physicians Formula Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder

Again, a Physicians Formula product with a mouthful of a name! Before I get rolling with this review, I just wanted to take a quick moment to shoutout to my new followers. I very much appreciate the support, and hope to keep some fresh content coming your way!

If you've had the chance to read some of my previous posts, I discussed at length some of the skin issues I have experienced/been experiencing. Why is this relevant to this review...? Here's the backstory.

Earlier in the year, after a skin reaction led me to find out I had very sensitive facial skin, I took a short break from makeup to allow my skin to properly heal and to figure out which makeup products would be most suitable for my skin type. I felt naked! When I was ready to wear makeup once again, I tried a few different products including MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark, which still didn't mesh well with my skin and caused me to have minor breakouts :-(

When I was all but losing hope about finding an easy route to a new foundation, I visited my local Rexall and picked up Physicians Formula Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder in Sand Beige, on clearance! The product retails between $15- $20, depending on the store. However, if you keep your eyes open you'll be able to purchase this one for 15, 20 or 30% off! For this price, you are getting about 0.49 Oz/14 g of product. Just as a comparison, MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation is 0.52 Oz/15 g.

Long story short- this product became my HG mineral foundation. Post-skin breakout, I have developed a minimalist tendency towards face makeup. I try to wear as few face products as possible. On an average day, I'll go with the mineral foundation, blush and a teensy bit of an anti-shine powder on my nose and forehead! I'm a lot less experimental with foundations now because of my skin, so I would recommend this product to those who have sensitive skin and are searching for a foundation that might work for them.

I've used this product since April 2011 and I am only about half done. As far as my frequency of use, I would say I've used it about 4-5 days a week since then. I can easily see this product taking me past the new year.

I liked this product so much, that I encouraged my younger sister to purchase it as well! The packaging of her product is slightly different than mine, and I have read on makeupalley by a user, that the formula was altered with the repackage. If there is any difference between the formulations, I would consider my comments as applicable to the product you'll see in the following pictures.
The product itself makes a claim of being well-suited to "sensitive or breakout-prone skin". There's no way to necessarily verify this claim, as everyone will have different reactions to their formulation and specific ingredients. From what I've gathered online, some people tend to like this product and avoid breakouts, while others don't and experience breakouts.

Here's a great website I found where you can search for ingredients commonly found in cosmetic and beauty products.

I use the cap for the the product I use during application- hence its colour!

PROS
★ Decent colour selection
★ Buildable. Can be worn sheer or heavy. Light to medium coverage.
Soft, velvety powder that blends very well into the skin
★ Long lasting. I've worn this product for 12 hour stretches, lightly washing my face a few times and it still keeps much better than liquid foundations
★A mineral formula that isn't irritating to my sensitive skin
★ For the quantity, very affordable
CONS
★ Comes with a useless brush. But then again, the majority of brush add-ons are usually garbage!
★ Weird packaging. A flat container might have made this product easier to dispense and apply.

This is the only foundation that I am comfortable wearing now. It doesn't feel heavy and I do feel as if my skin is able to breath while it's on. Most of all, with my combination skin, it doesn't highlight any dry patches and blends brilliantly! In fact, it almost wears like a liquid foundation, once it has set. I break out very easily and don't experience any reactions while wearing this product (unless I don't wash it off after 8-9 hours or so!). The minerals themselves are finely milled and feel very soft when blended between my fingers. There are very very unnoticeable shimmer in the product. I didn't even notice it until my sister pointed it out. The result of this of course, is that it adds a bit of dimension to what could be a very matte product.

I'm an NC35-NC40, and the Sand Beige matches me perfectly. The natural beige somewhat matches my sister's NC30 skin, but is a bit too cool/pink for her.

FINAL THOUGHTS
All in all, this is a solid product. I can see myself continuing to use it in the future. If you have sensitive or breakout-prone skin, this might be a product you want to test out. Result will vary, of course, but this is a great mineral foundation! And I'm quite besotted with it! You might be too...
