I came across this entertaining channel on youtube called How It Should Have Ended. Their popularity has skyrocketed in the past few weeks! They basically create spoofs of popular films and television shows and portray different endings for each of them. The animations, scores and voices are really interesting to watch! I went through a few of them a while back, and below are my favourites.
To continue with the 'arts' theme of this particular Interesting Finds post, there is a cartoonist whose work I came across recently. The artist, Barry Deutsche creates political cartoons "with a generally progressive sensibility", which is totally my cup of tea! His anti-racist cartoons are the most interesting! Though I have not yet had the chance to browse through his other categories.
Below is a trailer for an upcoming anime version of X-Men. I can't wait to see it! Gambit and Wolverine look pretty awesome!
I read about this blog on Huffpost. I think the journey that this man is embarking upon is really something to marvel at and is definitely much needed in our world, at a time when socio-economic, cultural, religious, tribal, racial, (and other) cleavages are driving people further and further apart. In such a climate, we often forget about our common humanity. Good Luck Mr. Bowen!
A look at the Vodou religion and how history has affected our perception/views of people, institutions, phenomenons, etc. The author makes a great point about how "it's only through education and getting to know those with different beliefs that we can overcome our fear and realize that they are ordinary people who enrich our communities."
Look out France, this political opportunism may lead to further stigmatization of your largest religious community, and an even more unevenly applied secularism!
Interesting read on the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. It is extraordinary to see how certain phrases and sayings have permeated our everyday speak, the English language and many English-speaking western societies culturally.
Spotlight on a cause--> It's time we support this cause and help to eradicate modern day slavery! I once read that there are more people enslaved today than there was during the time of the Atlantic Slave Trade.
This kind of innovation in the education system should be welcomed. We won't know what success/failures such an experiment will result in if we don't take some chances here and there! One size doesn't fit all.
The response to this study is kind of amusing. It confuses me how this news could come as any surprise to pet-owners!
Amazing heart regeneration in mice!
This is a great read if you're interested in learning about the effect of HIV on middle-aged people. It seems that as more treatment options have emerged over the past few decades, people suffering from this illness are living longer, but with chronic diseases typically experienced in older age.
A new 'zombie-creating fungi' has been discovered and I have to say, it is quite frightening reading what kind of effect it can have on ants and insects!
Some new research on the dangers of cell-phone radiation. You know, staying on my cellphone for more 20 minutes at a time makes my head hurt. Believe what you may, but there is still a lot we don't know about yet when it comes to technology, exposure to small quantities of chemicals, etc.
Here is some useful information on traveling and booking airline tickets.
